Mary Seacole Memorial Statue Appeal
On Monday 24th November 2003 Lord Soley of Hammersmith launched the campaign for a permanent memorial to Mary Seacole.Mary was a celebrated Crimean War nursing heroine, but amazingly, there is still no monument to remember her by. Unlike Florence Nightingale, Mary was not included in the Crimean War Memorial in London.
The Mary Seacole Memorial Statue Appeal has been established to redress this. Mary Seacole is once again in the public eye since being voted the greatest Black Briton in an online poll in February 2004.
Mary Seacole's contribution to the nursing care of British soldiers during the Crimean War is an inspiration to all.
